Confessions Pt. 8

"I have learned over the years that when one's mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear."- Rosa Parks. These are the Confessions of a Black Girl.

Being Black is hard. Being a woman is hard. Being a Black woman is even harder. Some will disagree. And, that's fine. This is for the girls that look like me.

Nobody understands us but everyone has something to say about us. What luck. Let me make this short and sweet.

So, what are my confessions?

I just want to be who I am, we just want to be who we are. And for the life of me I can not figure out why we can't. I mean, seriously. Let us be great in the very essence of who we are. I am not, we are not, trying to please you. Honestly, when we do certain things it is totally and exclusively for us. Not you, you, or.. you.

I, we, don't like being clowned then copied. First they laugh, then they copy. This has been the song on repeat since our awesomeness was discovered. People get a glimpse of the magical essence of the Black woman and expect it to be their own. No, sis. No, world.

I am, we are, tired of hearing what everyone has to say about us. We never asked for your opinions. We never asked you to like us. We've only ever asked to be respected. As women, as Black women. For the very things that you criticize then use. We've only ever asked that you do not try to dm our shine. Don't try to dilute our magic.

I am so glad we are fearless. I am so glad that we a resilient. I am so glad that we bend but don't break. I am so glad that we are who we are.

A wise woman once said, "Black Girls… Naturally resilient! We persevere, stand tall, and fight to the end. We don’t give up! We make moves and succeed. We’re go-getters by nature. We are stronger than most. We are unstoppable! Fearless and confident in our capabilities. WE are Black Girl Strong! #Incomparable." - Stephanie Lahart
