Confessions Pt. 1

I swear to tell the whole truth, nothing but the truth. So, help me God. These are the Confessions of an Inmate's Daughter.

Every year since 1998, I've had restrictions on the relationship that I could have with my father. 2 hour visits. 20 minute phone calls. Undelivered letters.

Long lines. Gates opened and gates closed behind me. "You have 30 seconds remaining in this call." The sweet little note the prison sent, when the letters actually came, reminded me that they wanted me to understand who approved these words.

So, what are my confessions?

People tell you that life goes on, and some times that's true. Others, it isn't. It can seem like you're stuck in the matrix still trying to figure out where you are.. and how you got there.

Life really sucks most of the time. Missed birthdays, missed milestones, and missed holidays. Your loved one misses it all, and you feel every disappointment.

I can't tell you how many times my heart broke. There's no word I can use to explain the drop my heart made when the visit or phone call was over.

However, being the daughter of an inmate eventually taught me acceptance. Acceptance of people, circumstances, and life. There's no better way to learn than from life experiences.

Signed, An Inmate's Daughter
